How Much Does SEO Cost in Sri Lanka in 2026?

SEO BasicsBy SpecialistInSEO8 min read

Most Sri Lankan businesses pay between LKR 30,000 and LKR 200,000+ per month for SEO. Where you land in that range depends on how competitive your market is, how much content and link building you need, and how fast you want to move.

This guide sets out the real market ranges, what drives the price up or down, and — because an SEO provider should be willing to show its own numbers — exactly what SpecialistInSEO charges.

Monthly retainer tiers in Sri Lanka

Most agencies and consultants in Sri Lanka price SEO in three broad bands:

  • Starter, LKR 30,000–60,000/month: for small local businesses targeting a handful of keywords in one area, such as a salon in Nugegoda or a repair shop in Kandy. Covers technical fixes, on-page optimisation and Google Business Profile work.
  • Growth, LKR 60,000–120,000/month: for businesses competing across a city or a whole service category — hotels, clinics, e-commerce stores, professional services. Adds regular content production and competitor tracking on top of the technical and on-page work.
  • Premium, LKR 120,000–200,000+/month: for highly competitive national markets such as finance, real estate and travel, where ranking means out-publishing and out-linking strong competitors every month.

One-off and hourly options

Not everything is a retainer. A standalone SEO audit typically costs LKR 25,000–75,000 depending on the size of the site. Hourly consulting runs LKR 5,000–15,000 per hour, which suits businesses that have their own developer or marketer and mainly need direction.

Many businesses start with a one-off foundation project — keyword research, site structure and technical setup — and then move to a monthly retainer for growth.

What actually drives the price

Competition is the biggest factor: ranking a plumber in Galle is a different job from ranking a hotel group nationally. After that come the size and current condition of your website, how much new content your market demands each month, whether quality links need to be earned in your niche, and whether you are targeting one town or the whole island.

Anyone quoting you a firm price without asking about these things is guessing.

What SpecialistInSEO charges

These are my own current package prices, published so you can compare like with like. Every engagement starts with a one-time Foundation setup of LKR 75,000, which covers keyword research, your site structure and URL map, and the full technical setup — the groundwork that has to be in place before monthly work begins.

  • Starter — LKR 50,000/month (packages range LKR 50,000–75,000 depending on scope). For small local businesses starting out. Includes up to 15 target keywords, technical SEO and on-page optimisation, Google Business Profile optimisation, and a monthly performance report. Typical timeline: early movement in about 3–4 months.
  • Growth — LKR 85,000/month (packages range LKR 85,000–120,000). For growing businesses competing across a city or a service category. Includes everything in Starter, up to 25 target keywords, monthly content production, and competitor tracking. Typical timeline: content and authority gains build over 6–12 months.
  • Premium — LKR 140,000/month (packages range LKR 140,000–200,000+). For competitive national markets. Includes everything in Growth, up to 40 target keywords, link building, and priority support and consulting. Typical timeline: sustained gains over 6–12 months and beyond.
  • Larger or unusual project? Custom quotes are available — multi-location businesses, large e-commerce catalogues and one-off projects are scoped and priced individually.

The fine print, in plain language

The SpecialistInSEO prices above are indicative starting points, published for market guide purposes. Every engagement is quoted individually after a free SEO audit, because the right scope depends on your site, your market and your competitors.

These rupee packages are for Sri Lankan businesses billed in LKR. Clients billed in US dollars, including businesses outside Sri Lanka, can choose from our USD packages instead: SEO Basic at $500 and SEO Max at $1500, shown in the pricing section of our homepage.

Timelines are typical, not promised. SEO results vary with competition and starting position, and rankings are never guaranteed — by me or by anyone else.

Why the cheapest SEO is the most expensive

Sri Lanka has no shortage of very cheap SEO built on bulk spam links and copied content. It can work for a few weeks. Then Google's spam updates catch up, rankings fall away, and you pay a second time — first to clean up the damage, then to do the work properly.

If a provider guarantees a number one ranking, walk away. No honest agency can promise that, because no agency controls Google.

How to budget for SEO

Treat SEO as a minimum 3–6 month engagement, not a one-month experiment: rankings compound, and stopping at week six wastes the foundation you paid for. My companion guide on how long SEO takes in Sri Lanka breaks down realistic timelines in detail.

A sensible starting point for most local businesses is the Starter-to-Growth range, reviewed after the first quarter against actual leads and enquiries, not just rankings. And if local search is your main channel, pair the retainer with proper Google Maps work — for many Sri Lankan businesses, that is where the calls come from.

Five questions to ask before you compare quotes

Before you choose on price, ask every provider — including me — these five questions:

  • What exactly is included each month: how many pages, posts and links?
  • Who does the work: in-house, outsourced or automated?
  • How will results be reported: rankings only, or traffic, calls and enquiries?
  • What happens to the content and links if I stop?
  • Can you show me a Sri Lankan business you have actually ranked?
